Got Leadership2007

Got Leadership?
By: Angelique Boyd, Class of 2011

In the MSA, there is a program called “Got Leadership.” This is made to get middle school students to strive to become the best leaders they can be. This program consists of leadership tickets, raffles every Friday, and Got Leadership Luncheons every month or so. The leadership tickets mare these red tickets with the 5 qualities of YWLCS on them. Just to remind you they are: Hardworking, Scholarly, Creative, Responsible, and Respectful. If you show any of these 5 qualities, your teacher gives you one and your ticket will be in the raffle, which is every Friday. The more qualities you show in a week, the more tickets your get. If you win the raffle your picture will be on the board on the wall next to room 104. If you never win a raffle, but you get leadership tickets and you show leadership qualities you could be invite to a Got Leadership Luncheon with tasty food and speeches from teachers to keep you moving and to get others involved.
I remember when I was a MSA student, I received a good amount of leadership tickets and got invited to the luncheons and I have to say that the idea was fantastic. It teaches you to strive to be the best and never stop , because you will receive countless rewards in the end, but ,in real life it won’t be something you can hold. It will just be a feeling and that is what counts. I encourage everybody to strive to be their best and keep receiving your invisible leadership ticket.

This is beautiful, Angelique! I agree with what you wrote; a lot of times, we do want the recognition, and getting a bright red ticket is nice. But in life, you have to be motivated by your own sense of what is right and not do things to get a reward from someone else. I love your "invisible leadership ticket" idea!
